Summary of the Green World Official Channel Webinar featuring Professor Zhang from New York, USA
The Green World Official Channel recently hosted a highly informative session with Professor Zhang, diving deep into the science and practical application of Nutriplant Organic Plus Fertilizer (NOPF). This webinar offered crucial insights to help farmers across Africa maximize their yields and troubleshoot common challenges.
Hereâs a breakdown of the key takeaways and expert recommendations from Professor Zhang:
Professor Zhang stressed that NOPF is unique and requires specific application methods to ensure maximum cost-effectiveness and plant absorption.
NOPF has a slightly acidic pH (4-6), but because the amount sprayed is minimal, it will not directly change your soil pH. Its long-term benefit comes from allowing farmers to reduce their reliance on corrosive chemical fertilizers, helping the soil's pH naturally recover.
The True Culprit is Often Water or Contamination
Yellowing is generally not caused by NOPF. The primary reason is often drought/lack of water, which prevents the plant from absorbing any nutrients. Always check if your sprayer was properly rinsed after using a strong chemical, as residue can damage leaves.
Do NOT Mix NOPF with Insecticides or Chemical Fertilizers
Mixing NOPF with other chemicals can cause the products to bind and become ineffective. It also creates a high risk of leaf burn when strong chemical fertilizers are sprayed directly onto the foliage.
Fertilizer application must be stopped when a crop shifts from the vegetative phase to the reproductive phase (flowering/fruiting). Over-fertilization during this phase can confuse the plant, causing it to postpone flowering or reduce final yield.
Crop | Application Schedule and Stop Time |
---|---|
Rice | Spray one week before transplanting and one week after. Continue bi-weekly until the stem starts to elongate. |
Maize (Corn) | Spray every other week in the early season. Stop application when the corn silk appears. |
Sugarcane | Apply monthly during active growth, but stop 3-4 months before harvest or when the plant reaches its maximum height. |
Cabbage / Heading Crops | Apply during vegetative growth. Stop application when the head begins to form, as continued nitrogen can cause the head to break open. |
